In the second day of the Macalester Tournament, women’s water polo picked up a 13-5 win against Carthage College.
The Scots jumped ahead and never looked back. In the opening quarter, three different players for Monmouth scored. Skylar Rapp connected on her shot for the game’s first score. With under two minutes remaining in the quarter, Brittany Lira scored for a 2-0 Monmouth lead. Just fifteen-seconds later, Becca Dabrowski fired away another score to expand the lead to three after the first period of play.
In the first minute of the second period, the Scots tacked on two more goals. Just ten-seconds in to the frame, Miranda Pasky scored the fourth Monmouth goal of the day. Skylar Rapp found net on her second goal of the game, stretching the Scots lead to five. Carthage scored four goals in the remaining six-minutes to cut the halftime deficit to 7-4.
The Scots heated up in the second-half firing off four unanswered goals. Becca Dabrowski connected on the first score of the period. Just under two-minutes later, Dabrowski tacked on a pair of goals less than twenty-seconds a part for a 10-4 Monmouth lead. Emily Mathews scored the final three goals for the Scots en route to their win.
Monmouth now stands at 4-4 in conference play. Up next, the Scots will compete at the Collegiate Water Polo Association’s championships in New London, Conn. from Apr. 12-14.
