The women’s tennis team spent last weekend in Wisconsin facing Lawrence University, Ripon College, and St. Norbert College. Play began Saturday on the shores of the Illinois River at Lawrence. Senior Rachael Leifheit and Junior Alison Bowman pulled out an exciting #2 doubles victory beating the Vikings 8-7 (7-0). Also victorious against the Vikings were #1 singles player Emma Johanns and #4 singles player Emily Laughlin. Unfortunately, the team fell 3-6 to the Vikings.
Later in the day, the Fighting Scots traveled to Ripon College where they picked up their second win of the season beating Ripon, 6-3. Those victorious were the doubles teams of Leifheit/Bowman, freshmen Emily Laughlin and Izzie Hammond, and singles players McKenzie Devilder, Leifheit, Laughlin, and freshman Emily Henson.
Play moved inside Sunday morning against St. Norbert College. Although there were several hard-fought matches, the team fell 1-8 only picking up a double from Leifheit and Bowman. Junior Emma Johanns played a tough match and fell a tad short posting a 5-7, 2-6 score at #1 singles.
Leifheit and Bowman were the big winners for this weekend in Wisconsin. They finished the weekend undefeated at #2 doubles. Laughlin also won 3 matches this trip. The tennis team continues play Saturday, September 21 at 11 am against Blackburn college and again Tuesday the 24 the team travels to play Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois.
