The Fighting Scots women’s soccer team won Saturday the 14 in overtime 3-2. Dual- sport athlete, sophomore Ezzie Baltierra-Chavez, missed the cross country meet in Iowa and scored the game-winning shot three minutes into overtime. Senior Jacie Reis scored the first goal giving the Scots a 1-0 lead in the twenty-first minute. Webster then had a pair of goals in the span of three minutes taking the lead 2-1 through the 53rd minute.
Junior Devin Cross served Senior Kara-Jade Gordon a long ball that Gordon ripped into the upper right 90, tying the game at 2-2. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of regulation. In overtime, freshman Nina Guitron fed Baltierra-Chavez the winning shot. The Fighting Scots had 8 saves compared to Webster’s 3. Both teams ended the game with 6 fouls. Reis had 2 shots, 1 SOG, and 1 goal. Gordon also had 2 shots and 1 goal and had 2 SOGS. Baltierra-Chavez had 1 shot, 1 SOG, and 1 assist. The Fighting Scots ended the day 4-0-1.
Monmouth then hosted the University of Dubuque on Tuesday the 17 and lost their first game of the season. Dubuque scored the first two goals of the game in the twenty-third and thirty-eighth minutes giving them a 2-0 lead. The Fighting Scots rallied in the second half when freshman Mikayla and Reis scored two minutes apart to tie the game at 2-2.
Dubuque answered just three minutes later to win 3-2. The Scots will play on Saturday the 21 at Greenville (Ill.) University at 7 p.m.
