Midwest conference play started this past weekend for Monmouth College women’s soccer as they traveled to St. Norbert College and Beloit College.
Their weekend began on September 28 at St. Norbert College, where the women picked up a convincing 2-0 win on the road in hostile territory. Scoreless through the first half of play, senior forward Kara-Jade Gordon got the second half started by scoring in the 49th minute with a direct strike from ten yards out. Three minutes later, Gordon scored her second goal on the day off an assist by sophomore Jordyn Gosell. Those two early second half goals would prove to be enough to put St. Norbert away, and pick up three points in the first conference game of the young season.
Following their game at St. Norbert, the women traveled to Beloit College to face off on September 29 against the Buccaneers. The conditions for the match couldn’t have been worse, but the Fighting Scots did not let that affect them as they netted three first half goals past Beloit’s keeper, the first of which was scored only nine minutes in by senior Kara-Jade Gordon. Midway through the first half, Jordyn Gosell scored on an assist from Gordon, putting the Scots up 28 minutes in. In the 39th minute, junior Devin Cross netted a goal to put the Scots at a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
As the second half began, sophomore Ezzie Baltierra-Chavez netted her third goal of the season. The final goal came late in the second half by freshman Nina Guitron, putting the Buccaneers away in convincing fashion.
The Scots will play at home against Cornell College on Saturday, October 5, at 11 a.m. as they look to extend their lead atop the Midwest Conference.
