The Monmouth College Women’s soccer team won 3-0 against Knox College during their last home game of the season. “Home games just bring our team a different feeling of getting excited to play, especially when different Monmouth sports teams come out to support like they did at this game; it just brings positive game day encouragement to everyone. These are feelings I will definitely miss,” said senior Alyssa Mileham. The Scots started off strong in the first half when, in the sixth minute, junior Lynn Rech kicked the ball right over the goalkeeper's head and scored. Shortly after Elizabeth Schmidt scored to make the game 2-0.
"Being able to play against our biggest rival and to be a home game was such a surreal feeling. I knew right from the start of the game that we were going to win that game. Our whole team just had so much energy and fight in us that I knew we would come out with a win,” said senior Nicole Koppers.
The Scots went on to get 19 total shots on goal and 12 corner kicks. The last regular season win for Monmouth against Knox was in 2015. “Beating Knox has been something that we always want to do, and I am glad our team was able to do that,” said Mileham. In the last few minutes of the game, freshman Danielle Beach scored, resulting in a 3-0 sweep for Monmouth. “I loved getting to do a group hug at the end of the game with my whole team to celebrate our last home game as a win,” said Mileham.
The team has two games left to play in the conference. “I'm sad that it's my last two games ever to play a collegiate level sport, but happy that I get to do it with a team where we all love and support each other,” said Koppers. They will play their last game at Grinnell College on October 24th.
