Women's soccer clinches MWC berth
Women’s soccer finished up its regular season play last weekend and has high expectations headed into the postseason. The ladies finished their season with an overall record of 13-4-1, and with a conference record of 6-3. Coach Nick Rizzo and the women continue to work hard with the hope and expectation of making it far in postseason play.
This past Saturday, the Scots traveled to Ripon, Wisconsin to play the Ripon College Redhawks in the final game of their regular season. The ladies fought hard and took the game into extra time, though they suffered a 3-4 loss when the final whistle blew. Having clinched a playoff spot in the week prior, the Scots are brushing that loss off and looking forward.
Jacie Reis scored first of many on the day, netting the ball 23 minutes into the first half. Ripon responded nine minutes later, scoring their first goal and tying the game 1-1. The teams battled in the second half, alternating goals between Jacie Reis and the Redhawks offense. The final score of regular play was 3-3 and the game went into extra time. Ripon netted an overtime goal just 71 seconds in, ending the game with a 3-4 loss for the Scots.
Other notable efforts by the Scots came from Kara-Jade Gordon with 7 shots on the day and Kaylee Doebert with an assist to Reis’s second goal. Quinn Cutler stood tall in goal as she played all 91:11 minutes of the game.
The Scots have prepared to face Cornell College today at 11 am at Galesburg High School. With this being the first round of the playoffs, the ladies can’t help but keep their eyes on an MWC conference championship tomorrow. The championship is scheduled to be played at 11 am at Knox College.
