The women’s soccer team added another win on Saturday at their match against the Greenville University Panthers.
Senior Kara-Jade Gordon started the Scots off by scoring the team’s first goal in the fourth minute, assisted by sophomore Jordyn Gosell. Junior Devin Cross scored in the first minute of the second half. Senior Jacie Reis, assisted by freshman Mikayla McCart, and freshman Yari Aguado, assisted by junior Taylor Coffman, scored in the 72nd and 73rd minutes of the game giving the Scots a nice 4-0 lead. The Panthers; however, scored late in the 81st minute. The Fighting Scots won the match 4-1. The Panthers outshot the Scots 15-9, but Monmouth put six of their attempts on frame compared to the Panthers’ five shots on goal. The Scots had 4 total saves compared to the Panthers’ 2. Monmouth also had 10 fouls compared to the Panthers’ 12. Junior Kensey Arlt picked up the win in goal. Monmouth improved their record: finishing the day 5-1-1.
Monmouth also hosted Principia on Tuesday. They won the match 6-0. Gordon started the team off by scoring in the fourth minute on the feed from Gosell. Gordon scored again in the 56th minute. Before that, senior Makayla Shaw, sophomore Ezzie Baltierra-Chavez, and Cross all scored a goal apiece for the Scots. Freshman Emma Freyermuth scored in the 61st minute: her first collegiate goal, off of a feed from freshman Sam Koppers and Aguado. Scots’ goalkeeper Quin Cutler saw just one shot, notching her third win against no losses. Monmouth outshot Principia 25-1. The Scots improved their record: ending the day 6-1-1.
Monmouth will have their first two conference matches on Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 29th. They first play at De Pere, WI against St. Norbert College and then in Beloit, WI against Beloit College. Both games will start at 11.
