Monmouth women’s lacrosse dropped a close contest against Augsburg University but couldn’t overcome the initial deficit in a 17-12 defeat.
The Eagles took an early lead, scoring the game’s first four goals. Scots leading scorer Kara- Jade Gordon put Monmouth on the board with a pair of scores within ten-seconds of each other to get the offense going. Each side exchanged a pair of goals before Augsburg tacked on a final score in the remaining minute of the first half for an 8-5 lead at the break.
In the second half, Monmouth pulled within two goals on three separate occasions, but each time the Eagles created scoring opportunities to open up the lead. Gordon continued her hot start, adding five more goals to her season stats. Kaelin Sommer and Amanda Green added on two goals each. Kaitlin Korf for the Scots recorded 15 saves while guarding the net, as Augsburg out shot Monmouth 42-32.
The loss is the Scots fourth straight as they fell to 2-5 in conference play. Monmouth looks to get back in the win column when they travel to Concordia University Chicago on Apr. 13 with start time set for 1 PM.
