The women’s golf team kept their season rolling at the Fighting Scots Invitational at their home course at Gibson Woods. The Fighting Scots finished the first round on Saturday in third place with an 18-hole score of 342. Junior Mamie Ambrosh led the team with an 18-hole score of 82. Sophomore Dani Freeman finished the first round with an 84. Senior Haley Hoeksta finished a stroke behind Freeman with an 85. Sophomore Morgan Bemis finished with a 91, and Senior Kaniesha Whatley rounded out the Scots five-person team Saturday with a non-scoring 95. Senior Jessi Haines finished her individual round out with a 97.
Sunday, the team shaved off six strokes and came within one stroke of the program’s course record. The team finished with an 18-hole score of 336 and finished out the tournament with a 36-hole score of 678. That score kept them in third place out of eight teams at their invitational. Hoekstra led the team with a 79 and a combined 36 round score of 164 – the team’s lowest 36-hole score at their home course. She finished seventh in the tournament. Ambrosh gained a stroke for an 18-hole score of 83 and finished with a combined 165. Freeman also gained a stroke Sunday to have an 18-hole score of 85 and a combined score of 169. Bemis shaved off a stroke giving her an 89 and she finished with a combined score of 180. Whatley finished with a non-scoring 97 and a combined scored of 192. Haines finished her individual round by shaving off three strokes with a 94. She had a combined score of 191.
The Fighting Scots will travel to the Chicago suburbs next weekend, Friday the 13th for the 18-hole Benedictine Invitational at 1:00pm.
