The Monmouth women’s basketball team played at Ripon College on Friday, Jan. 31. They won the game 83-60. Monmouth started out strong, scoring 24 in the first quarter followed by RC’s 16. The second quarter was Monmouth’s lowest-scoring quarter of the game, with only 9 added points, giving them a slim 33-30 at the end of the first half. The third quarter was their highest-scoring quarter, adding 27 points to their total, giving them a wider lead of 60-46. Monmouth then put up 23 points in the fourth quarter, giving them the win of 83-60. Senior Carley Turnbull led the team with 30 points followed by senior Becca Gallis with 21 points. For the game, Monmouth was 7-14 on three-point attempts, 25-54 on FG, and 28-37 on free throw attempts. Ripon was 4-13 on three-point attempts, 23-57 on FG, and 10-23 for free throw-attempts.
After the win, Monmouth played on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Lawrence University. They won the game 69-59. The game was tied at the end of the first quarter, 16-16. After another close quarter, Monmouth led at the end of the first half, 30-29. Monmouth broke away from Lawrence a little more in the third quarter, adding 16 points, giving them a lead of 46-41. The fourth quarter was Monmouth’s highest-scoring quarter, adding 23 to their score and giving them the win of 69-59. Gallis led the team in scoring, giving the Fighting Scots 27 points. For the game, Monmouth was 5-13 of three-point attempts, 20-52 on FG, and 24-30 on free throw attempts. Lawrence was 6-16 on three-point attempts, 24-59 on FG, and 5-12 on free throw attempts. Monmouth ended Saturday 15-4 in regular play and 10-2 on conference play.
They won at Monmouth on Wednesday, Feb. 5 against Cornell College. They next play Saturday, Feb. 8, at 3pm against Grinnell College at home. Both games are conference games.
