Saturday February 22nd, the Scots played Grinnell College on their home court for their final game of the season.
Grinnell won the tip off at the start of the game and scored the first basket. They got another basket after a defensive rebound and pushed the ball up the court to score a layup.
Ashley Jones got a block that led to a basket from Averi Rangel earning the first points of the game for the Scots. Ella Goodrich followed it up with a steal, leading to a bucket from Jones.
After a lot of back and forth the final score of the first quarter ended 14-12.
In the second quarter, the Scots offense came to a standstill, while Grinnell’s offense came alive. They outscored the Scots 22-9. This was the beginning of the end for the Scots. They’d have to overcome a 15-point deficit.
The beginning of the third quarter saw the Scots trail by as many as 23 points after an 11-5 run made by Grinnell. The Scots responded with an 8-2 run to close out the third quarter with a 51-31 score.
In the fourth quarter the Scots outscored Grinnell 18-16. The quarter started off with Grinnell scoring inside, followed by a basket inside from Monmouth’s Brooklyn Sellers and then a bucket by Rangel. Grinnell scored inside with a layup, but Rangel responded with a three-pointer. One minute later Grinnell also hit a three pointer.
Jones went on to score back-to-back layups, cutting the deficit to 13. But then Grinnell responded with a 3 pointer and stopped the Scots run (the score is now 61-45) with three minutes left. In the remaining minutes of the game, there was a 7-7 scoring outing, and Grinnell dribbled out the last 20 seconds with a final score of 68-52.
