The Monmouth College women’s basketball team extended their winning record to 3-0 on Wednesday, November 13, when they played Iowa Wesleyan University. The Fighting Scots won 98-74. Wednesday night, senior Becca Gallis became the tenth woman in Fighting Scots’ history to score 1,000 points. Junior Shayne Smith came off the bench and scored 9 points to give Monmouth a 49-39 lead at the break. Shayne had a total of 18 points, sophomore Josie Morgan had 17, Gallis had 16, and senior Carley Turnbull had 14 points for the night. Monmouth was 41-75 (54.7%) on FG, 5-14 (35.7%) on three-point attempts, and 11-14 (78.6%) on free throw attempts. Monmouth had 68 points in the paint and 20 points off turnovers, compared to the Tigers’ 20 points in the paint and 7 points off turnovers.
Monmouth then played on Tuesday, November 19 at Blackburn College at 6 pm. Monmouth ended the night with a 4-0 record. They finished the game winning 79-54. Turnbull led the team with 15 points and sophomore Kaitlyn Osmulski was close behind with 13 points. The Fighting Scots went 29-70 (41.4%) on FG, 6-21 (28.6%) on three-point attempts, and 15-20 (75%) on free throw attempts. Monmouth had 17 points off turnovers and 27 bench points compared to Blackburn’s 16 points off turnovers and 13 bench points. Monmouth will play next Tuesday, November 26, at 7 against Augustana College.
