As the spring semester winds down, many students are feeling either that they have too much on their plate before finals, or that they cannot find enough to fill their time. Student participation in various activities has seen a decline, and despite one of the repeated complaints from MC students being that there isn’t enough to do on campus, events and activities have been cancelled due to low attendance and participation rates.
Most recently effected by this trend has been Associated Students of Monmouth College’s event, Wildin’ Out Wednesdays. ASMC representatives created this event in response to the request for more campus activities, but on Tuesday, March 19, the event had to be cancelled because there were not enough people signed up to participate.
Wildin’ Out Wednesday was a well attended event in its first few weeks, and its recent cancellation proved to be an upset to the ASMC staff who worked to put it together. An email from Jared Hankinson on behalf of ASMC executive officers explained, “this is definitely sad to see, especially considering the fact that one of the most common student complaints is lack of things to do on campus.” It also called students to action, saying, “try to become more involved in being part of the solution to the problem of low participation in programming that is effecting all campus organizations.”
