After finishing with a positive record of 13-12 last season, the Scots look to improve on their fifth-place finish in the conference.
With a number of returning seniors, the team can build off of the of last season and look to “put in the necessary work that it takes to be great,” said starting shooting guard, Jordan Hill. “I think this team has a lot of potential.”
“I think the last couple of seasons we’ve been… young and we’ve been close,” said Head Coach Todd Skrivseth. “Hopefully, we can take that next step this year as we get older and add some new pieces to the mix.”
One of the good things about the Scots having a younger team in the last few years is they benefit from those players returning.
“We lost David Williams who played significant minutes for us last year. So, this team will have a lot of the same qualities as last year's team, but we definitely need to improve in some areas: offensive efficiency, rebounding the ball, and defensively we need to tighten up a little bit,” said Skrivseth
“Our goal this year is to take that next step as a team and win a championship,” said Skrivseth. “I think experience is a big factor in winning championships in our league. If you look around the conference at the teams that have won, they usually have a lot of players that have been around for a while.”
The conference tournament championship is the game Hill looks forward to the most. As a senior, “going out for one last ride with this team and aiming for a conference championship is all the motivation that the team needs.”
“We’re fortunate to have a majority of our rotation back, but there's six other teams that can say that. Our conference didn’t lose a lot of players. So, it’s going to be interesting, it's going to be a dog fight no doubt about it,” said Skrivseth.
