After the whirlwind of a school year last year, it’s been incredibly uplifting to finally regain some sense of normalcy on campus. We’ve all been through an immense amount of stress and hardship in the last two years, and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we’re all hoping to have a good, relatively typical semester. In order for this to happen, I’d like to quickly acknowledge some changes to the campus’s expectations for the year. First and foremost, masks are no longer needed when outside, and social distancing is no longer a requirement! Additionally, we’re back to having fully in-person classes, the library is opened later (they’re now closing at 10pm), and on-campus events are bigger and better!
As a sophomore, my only taste of college was last year - when everything (and everyone) was closed off. We didn’t have any good opportunities to meet people because of COVID restrictions, and student/professor relationships weren't strong, as many of us didn’t have the chance to talk to them face-to-face. So this has been my first time experiencing Monmouth’s community in-full, and seeing the light return to campus has been incredibly exciting. For my freshman year, I felt constantly cooped up in my dorm due to my own fears regarding COVID, and for the fact that there wasn’t much going on. These first few weeks of school, though, I was finally able to see why people say Monmouth is a community; I’ve joined clubs, talked to people face-to-face, and have gone to some of the many events that ASAP has been putting on this year. Already, my sophomore year is off to a better start to my freshman year, and I sincerely hope that you all feel the same.
With that being said, I’d like to remind everyone to keep an eye out on @monmouthcollege and @asapmonmouthcollege’s Instagrams for upcoming events and other important news! The Courier staff is so excited to be back for the semester, and we can’t wait to update you on everything going on throughout the school year.
Wear your mask, study hard, and roll Scots!
