Volleyball Sweeps in Three

On Tuesday, September 13th, the Monmouth College volleyball team won in three and kept their Principia College’s points in the single digits each set played at home in a non-conference match.

Sarah LaHood, senior middle-hitter/blocker, went on a thirteen point serve streak giving the Scots a 16-3 lead in the first set. LaHood, in her fourth year on the team, has high hopes for this season. “Even though our team is young, our underclassmen are very talented. I have no doubt we will make it to the conference tournament,” says LaHood. “I am enjoying being a captain this year and seeing the potential of the younger players for this year and years to come.”

The Scots volleyball team consists of seventeen underclassmen and five upperclassmen. LaHood is one of two seniors on the team this year alongside with Amanda Dybal, who had six kills and two blocks.

Paige Bergschneider, sophomore, has been leading the team in assists as the starting setter. She had seventeen assists throughout all three sets. “Some people see our team being young as a bad thing. When actually, we don’t see age as a deficit. Whether you are a senior or a freshman, we are all one team,” said Bergschneider. “I see our youth as beneficial because it will give us good experience for the future.”

Monmouth had a total of forty kills and twelve aces in the Principia game. Their record is currently 3-5 and they start their conference season this Friday the 23rd against Grinnell College.
