Wednesday Oct. 15th, the volleyball team faced Webster University.
The first set saw a lot of back and forth play. The Scots went down 2-0 but then Brynn Hogan responded with a kill of her own. Sparking a small run where the Scots picked up two more points to take the lead 3-2. Webster would go on a run of their own scoring five straight to take a commanding 7-3 lead.
After a bit of back and forth between the Scots and Webster the score was 8-8. Suddenly the Scots were down 17-16 but then Webster went on a run scoring six straight and the game seemed to be getting away from the Scots. With the game being 23-16 Webster only needed two more points to win the set and after four back and forth possessions the set ended 25-18.
“Stay relaxed and play our game,” Coach Hope Neargarder said. “We got a little jittery in the first set and made a few more errors than we usually do.”
The Scots came into the second set fully energized and scored four straight. In the second set the Scots had 3 separate points in the set where they scored four or more times in a row. Those points in the game were points 1-4, 6-10, and 19-23. With the offense flowing a lot more smooth the Scots won this set 25-16.
The third set ended the same way but it was a one point game after an ace by Delaney Morio from Webster University(15-16 Scots up one). The Scots responded with three kills, one coming from Lauren Aldrich and two coming from freshman Bri Woodard. Webster would score one more point to make the score 16-19 but then the Scots scored six straight to end the game. With the last two of those points being Aces scored by Alana Robertson.
Headed into set four up 2-1 the Scots had all the confidence in the world and after a game with many runs and lead changes the Scots pulled out the final win with a score of 25-21.
“We’ve been overthinking a lot of our plays,” Neargarder said. “The goal was to not overthink and really trust ourselves and our teammates and our training to move into conference play this weekend so this was just a start to what we want to do in conference,” said coach Neargarder.
