Last Friday, the Fighting Scots traveled to Lake Forest, Illinois to play a conference match against Lake Forest College. Monmouth battled hard to win the first set 26-24. The second set was just as tough with LFC winning 27-25. This would prove to be the pattern for the next two sets. Monmouth again won a close third set 26-24. LFC gained a little more traction, winning the fourth set 25-18. LFC won the final set 15-7, winning the conference match 3-2. Over the five sets, Monmouth had 47 kills compared to LFC’s 70, 45 assists compared to LFC’s 69, and 113 digs compared to LFC’s 117. Senior Ashley Farris led the Fighting Scots with 15 kills, followed by junior Riley Cook with 11. Sophomore Megan Gilstrap led the team with 4 blocks, followed by senior Lauren Sperry with 3. Senior Laura Dulee led the team with 41 assists. Junior Renee Rude led the team with a total of 33 digs. The Scots ended the night 10-12, and 2-4 in conference play. The Scots played at rival Knox College on Thursday the 24th at 7 pm.
The Scots will finish conference play this weekend playing Saturday the 26th at home against Grinnell College at 1 pm, and they will play again Sunday the 27 at Beloit College in Beloit, WI at 1 pm.
