The Monmouth College volleyball team showed grit and resilience on the road Saturday at Augustana but fell to Luther in a roller coaster five-set match.
The Scots struck first, taking the opening set with clean execution and strong defensive play. Luther picked it up in the second set, as Monmouth let off the pedal, shifting the momentum and setting the stage for a tense battle. Looking for a spark, Monmouth made a key change after the second set, bringing Senior Shea Scott off the bench.
“I knew when Coach put me in that I had to step up,” Scott said. “At first I was nervous, but once I settled into the rhythm, I just focused on helping the team and doing my part.”
Scott’s impact was immediate. With steady play in the front row and contagious energy, she helped lift the Scots to a third-set victory, reclaiming the lead and firing up her teammates.

Luther won the fourth to even the match, forcing a fifth set. Despite Monmouth’s fight and several late game rallies, Luther closed it out for the 3–2 win.
