The Fighting Scots volleyball split their wins and losses last weekend at the Knox College Tournament. The Scots had their first game on Friday 13 against Central College. They lost a close first set 22-25. They lost the second set 13-25 and lost the third match in another close round 22-25. Senior Ashley Farris led the team with 6 kills.
Monmouth went on to win their second game of the day against St. Mary-of-the-Woods. Monmouth won the first set 25-11. They then won a close second set 25-22. They lost the third and fourth sets 22-25 and 23-25. They then battled hard to win fifth and final set 15-12. Monmouth had 58 kills compared to SMOW’s 51. Junior Riley Cook led the team with 15 kills.
On Saturday the 14, the Fighting Scots again lost their first match of the day 0-3. The Scots opened their day against Anderson University. They lost the first set 19-25 and then went on to lose the second and third sets 20-26 and 14-25. Farris led the team in kills with 9 and Senior Laura Dulee had the team’s lone ace and led with 23 assists.
The Fighting Scots then won their second game of the day 3-1 against Iowa Wesleyan University. They won the first set 25-15 and then lost the second set 15-25. They went on to win the last two sets 25-14 and 25-22. Monmouth had 47 kills compared to Iowa Wesleyan’s 40. Cook led the team with 16 kills and 4 blocks. Sophomore Loryn Beal led the team in digs with 12. The Fighting Scots then played Tuesday the 17 against Blackburn College at home and won 3-0. They won the first and third sets 25-13. They won the battle in the second set 25-22. The Scots will play Saturday the 21 at Dominican University at 6:00.
