The Monmouth College women’s volleyball team began Midwest Conference play last weekend after playing in several tournaments at North Central and Knox. Entering conference play, the Scots were 6-6 on the season.
The Fighting Scots volleyball team played September 28 in De Pere, Wisconson, against St. Norbert College.
They lost their first match 14-25, and then came back and won the second match 25-18. They lost the third match 16-25 and lost a close fourth match 21-25. Monmouth had 43 kills compared to SNC’s 65. They had 61 digs compared to SNC’s 70. Junior Riley Cook led the team with 13 kills and 5 blocks. The Fighting Scots ended the weekend 6-8 and 0-2 in conference play.
Monmouth then hosted Illinois College on Tuesday, October 1, at 7 p.m. Monmouth lost three very close matches. The first set was 19-25, followed by two more close matches 23-25 and 24-26. Monmouth had 30 kills compared to IC’s 46. Monmouth also had 5 aces compared to IC’s 3. Cook led the team in kills (9), Aces (2), and blocks (2). This was their third conference match.
The team now has a 6-9 record with an 0-3 record against Midwest Conference opponents.
The Scots have two more home games to try to climb atop the MWC leaderboard. Next up is another home conference matchup Friday, October 4, against Ripon College at 7 p.m. The Scots also have a conference match on Saturday, October 5, at home against Lawrence University starting at 1 p.m. and a regular-season match on Tuesday, October 8, at Eureka at 7 p.m.
