The Monmouth volleyball team traveled to River Forest, IL to play Dominican University on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The Scots took a quick lead in the first set, but Dominican came back to tie the set 3-3. They then went on to win the set 25-14. Monmouth then lost a close second set 21-25. Later, they lost another close set 18-25. Monmouth had only 28 kills compared to Dominican’s 43. Dominican also led with 11 aces compared to Monmouth’s 5. Monmouth had 26 total assists and 50 total digs compared to Dominican’s 43 assists and 52 digs.
Junior Riley Cook led the team with 7 kills followed by senior Ashley Farris (6), senior Lauren Sperry (5), and sophomore Megan Gilstrap (5). Senior Laura Dulee led the team with 3 aces and 19 assists. Sperry and Gilstrap tied again for blocks, both with 2. Junior Renee Rude led the team with 13 digs. The Scots ended the weekend with a record of 6-6. The Scots then played their first conference match on Wednesday at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
Next, the Scots will play another conference match in De Pere, Wis., against St. Norbert College on Saturday, Sept. 28. They will then play Tuesday, Oct. 1, in a conference match against Illinois College at home, starting at 7 p.m.
