According to Monmouth College administration, onn Tuesday, February 10th two Monmouth students were walking back to their dorm rooms from the freshmen 11th Street parking lot when two juveniles from town started yelling racial/hate slurs. When the students yelled back the juveniles pulled a BB gun on the two students.
An investigation was done by the Monmouth Police Department, which is common practice with every off campus incident. One of the students who was involved with the incident was interviewed by the Monmouth Police Department. Following the conversation with the student, the MPD arrested the two juveniles and confiscated the BB gun. The two juveniles have been released from their parents or guardians.
Right now Monmouth College is advising students to avoid East Boston Avenue. If students park on 11th street the college is advising people to walk down Detroit instead of Boston. If students at Monmouth feel uncomfortable or unsafe walking to the 11th street parking lot they should call campus safety for a ride. The college is working on creating a conversation between Monmouth College students and Monmouth Police Department to cover safety protocols and discuss the Campus Emergency Response Plan. At this time if students need help with any situations they should contact Monmouth College Campus Safety or Dean of Student Life Karen Ogorzalek’s office.
