Last weekend, the track and field teams recorded several national marks, set a school record, and improved their overall performances in the MWC standings.
The new school record was set in the 60-meter hurdles by Vanessa Caldwell, who ran a personal best of 9.12, breaking the previous school record of 9.13, winning the event in the process.
The national marks for the meet were set both in the throws and in the 60-meter dash. In the weight throw, it was senior Joe Krall who rose to the occasion, winning the event while tossing the 2nd best weight throw in the nation. In the shot put, Drew Thaxton tossed a personal best throw which currently ranks 14th in Division III. The Scots were also bolstered by a national-caliber performance on the track, with Stone Darrow’s time of 6.93 in the 60-meter dash, which is also 14th in the nation at the moment.
In addition to school records and national marks, there were several standout performances on the day. In the relays, it was the men’s 4x2 relay team of Darrow, Zach Vancil, Darius Williams, and Lucas Sondgeroth that ran to the win and the fastest time in the MWC at 1:31.06. The women’s 4x2 was also dominant, winning by almost three seconds. That relay was made up of Jordan Peckham, Cindy Ladner, Vanessa Caldwell, and Kenzie Baker. In the field, it was Austin Pfau and Darius Williams leading the way in the triple and long jump, finishing 1st and 2nd in their respective events. The Scots head to Illinois College this Friday for the Hilltop Invitational.
