This weekend, the Fighting Scots’ men’s and women’s track teams will host and compete in the Midwest Conference Championships. Field events start on Friday at 1:00 p.m. and running events at 2:45 p.m. On Saturday, field events are set to go at 10:30 and running events at noon. The Monmouth men are looking for their 20th straight indoor conference championship, and seem poised to do so.
The Scots have dominated the throws all season, with John Hintz, Joe Krall, and Drew Thaxton ranked 1-3 in both the weight throw and the shot put.
In the sprints, Stone Darrow is ranked 1st in the 60-meter dash and 2nd in the 200. Darius Williams and Seth Anderson are ranked 1st and 2nd respectively in the long jump, with Anderson also ranked 1st in the triple jump and 2nd in the high jump. Tate Heiple is ranked 5th in both the 800
and the mile. St. Norbert and Illinois College represent the Scots’ greatest challenge to a 20th straight conference championship, but the Fighting Scots seem ready for the challenge.
On the women’s side, St. Norbert has won the team title in recent years, and the Scots look to challenge for the team championship. Jordan Peckham heads into the meet ranked 4th in the 60, 200, and 400, and Vanessa Caldwell is ranked 4th in the hurdles. Strong relay performances should also help the Scots contend for the team championship. The women’s 4x2 is ranked 1st in the conference, and the 4x4 is ranked 2nd. In the field events, Aleeka Gentzler and Josie Welker are ranked 2nd and 4th respectively
in the high jump.
In the throws, Leigha Sebben is ranked 3rd in both the shot put and the weight throw. Be sure to check out the action as the men attempt to win another conference title and the women contend for their first
championship since 2012.
