The men’s and women’s track teams had a successful tune-up meet at Illinois College as they prepare for this weekend’s Midwest Conference Championships. In the throws, Joe Krall continues to improve in the weight throw. Already ranked 2nd in the nation in the event heading into the meet, Krall heaved a new personal best to win the event. Drew Thaxton also threw for a new PR. Thaxton’s throw is 2nd in the conference and is currently 13th in the nation. Thaxton also performed well in the shot put, throwing a heave which also is 13th in the country. In the jumps, Austin Pfau recorded another win for the Scots. Pfau leaped to a new personal best in the triple jump which currently puts him first in the conference rankings. The men’s 400 was another event to watch at the meet, as Reed Bona and Alex Cutright each improved on their times for the season. Each broke the 53 second barrier, running 52.24 and 52.53, respectively. On the women’s side, the field events were also strong, highlighted by Cindy Ladner’s personal best in the long jump. Ladner currently sits 2nd on the Midwest Conference leaderboard. The Scots were also led by two more personal bests in the pole vault and in the weight throw. Katie Hayes placed 4th in the event. In the weight throw, Hannah McVey threw a PR and also won the event.
The track teams will see their seasons culminate in the Midwest Conference Championships this weekend. The meet is a two day event held at Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA. The first day of competition is today with the meet wrapping up on Saturday.
