Monmouth College Fighting Scots’ football team kicked off against Lawrence University Vikings to a packed stadium during the college’s Family Weekend.
In the first two drives, the Scots had a fumble and pick, but the defense did what its job stopping the Vikings. Although Lawrence was in the red zone twice, the defense blocked a field goal that could have taken the lead. The next play was what the Scots needed, an 83-yard touchdown by running back McKade Brooks.
On the next drive, Monmouth scored again with a 42-yard pass to quarterback Brayden Deem. Rallied together, the Scots scored touchdown after touchdown with the next two coming from Brooks and Deem, running the score up. The fans of Monmouth saw history unravel as multi-sport athlete Mylee Hansen became the first woman to score an extra point in school history. The Scots went on to win 52-6.
By the end of the game, Deem had three touchdowns and a total of 249 yards with two interceptions. Brook ran 167 yards with three touchdowns. Lastly, wide receiver Nate Thornton combined for 94 yards with 2 touchdowns. The Scots 52-6 win gives them a positive 2-1 in-season statistic.
The Fighting Scots’ next game is October 5th at 2 pm against Illinois College for homecoming weekend.
