The Highlander Hub is a project that has been in the making for many years. At the beginning of summer, the Stockdale fellows program became the lead organization that oversees maintaining it.
Senior Lead Stockdale Fellow Grace Simpson said that the hub has “a lot of shelf stable foods from canned goods to box pasta, as well as a career closet. There is business attire that students can check out for business meetings, job interviews, sorority recruitment, anything that they would need more formal clothing for. We try to have a wide variety of sizes and styles to accommodate everyone. Now we have a lot of hygiene products as well as school supplies. There are also dorm room supplies, like sheets and towels.”
The hub is open to all students free of charge. There is no judgement or questions asked when utilizing these resources. “One of the main priorities has been to destigmatize the use of food pantries and clothing pantries” said Simpson.
The Stockdale Fellows will be hosting canned food drives throughout the year where people can make donations towards the hub. “We call it a highlander hub drive now because we take hygiene products, shelf stable foods, and any kind of food or dorm supplies. Anyone can also bring in donations to the hub at anytime and leave them on the table” said Simpson.
Monmouth College encourages the students to take advantage of the resources at the Highlander Hub, located at the bottom of the Stockdale Center, open 12pm to 10pm every day.
