Over the past Homecoming weekend, the Fighting Scots swimmers dominated in their home opener with full stands at Pepper Natatorium. In the Double Duel, facing Knox College and North Central College, the men and women ruled the pool in 18 out of 25 events. Junior captains: Preston Bocchi and Mirand Pasky, received the season’s first MWC Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week honors for placing first in every event they swam this weekend. Tyler Davis (So) and Rik Doornenbal (Sr) started strong in individual events, winning both first and second place in the 200-Yard Freestyle. The women, Marissa Logan (So) and Kaitlyn Fox (Fr), followed in their footsteps in the same event, taking first and second as well. Freshman Jaid Sellers started on a career high, placing first in the 50 and 100-Yard Backstroke. Dylan Chiaro (Jr) and Daniel Kadlec (So) took first and second respectively in the 100-Yard Butterfly. In the 50-Yard Freestyle, the women took second to eighth place with Lauren Fulscher (Fr), Brittany Lira (Sr), Maggie Wingo (So), and Ashling Staunton (Fr). The distance women: Marissa Logan, Kaitlyn Fox, Kayle Heumann (Fr), and Morgan Abraham (Sr) performed well in the 500-Yard Freestyle. The men earned 143 points against North Central’s 75, and the women earned 137 points to North Central’s 40. Against Knox, the men cleared 171 points to Knox’s 31, and the women scored 148 points against Knox’s 53. With a great start to the season, the coaching staff and athletes are excited to see how the season progresses.
The Scots are on the road this Saturday October 26 at Illinois Wesleyan University for their Halloween Invite.
