Congress has recently passed a $2.2 trillion package in an effort to help taxpayers during this pandemic. Because so many are losing jobs or working fewer hours, financial support is greatly needed. You may be wondering how this stimulus package will affect you, so here is the breakdown of who will be getting money from the government and who won’t be.
The highest amount a person can receive in their stimulus check is $1,200, but not everyone will be getting the full amount. A single taxpayer must earn less than $75,000 to receive the full $1,200 and between $75,000 and $99,000 to be eligible for a partial amount. Heads of households earning less than $112,500 will also be getting the full $1,200 and those with an income between $112,500 and $146,500 will receive partial amounts. Couples filing jointly without children with a total income of less than $150,000 will receive $2,400 and those making between $150,000 and $198,000 will receive smaller amounts. For each child or other dependent under 17, parents will receive an additional $500 payment. This information will be based on 2019 tax returns or from 2018 if taxes from last year haven’t yet been filled out.
