My name is Abby Haslem and I’m a senior Psychology major and Communications minor. I’m the Copy Editor for The Courier and a member of the school’s concert band. Here are some fun facts about me!
My real first name is Abigail, but no one has ever called me that.
I transferred to Monmouth from Knox in 2018 and I can say that Monmouth is the superior institution.
I’ve known my best friend since we were in diapers and I can’t imagine life without her.
I was raised in the Midwest, but I was born in upstate New York.
I like a wide variety of music, but I have a soft spot for 90s and 20s rock/alternative and yes, that includes some Nickelback.
Halloween is my favorite holiday because I love the aesthetic and horror is one of my favorite genres.
I’m the middle child in my family and I can definitely say middle children have it the hardest -- come at me oldest siblings.
I’m a cat person but I like dogs, too!
My favorite things to watch on TV are comedy series. Some of my favorites are Parks and Rec, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rick and Morty, South Park, and The Office (of course).
I’m also a huge Spongebob fan, but only seasons 1-3. Anything after that is mostly trash and only good for memes.
After graduation, I plan on going to grad school so I can become a counselor.
I can play the piano and I’ve been playing the alto saxophone since I was in sixth grade.
I don’t know if I have a favorite movie, but I really love some of Tim Burton’s older movies like Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Edward Scissorhands.
The one item of clothing I couldn’t do without would have to be my flannel. It’s so cozy and has the ability to make any outfit pop.
My favorite foreign food is Japanese. I love sushi and I wish it was more readily available where we live!
I’ve taken the official Pottermore sorting hat quiz three times and every time it says I’m a Slytherin. I don’t know if that’s a bad thing, but I guess it means I’m ambitious.
I plan on moving to Colorado after I graduate to go to grad school and to be closer to both of my sisters. It’ll be nice to get out of Illinois!
I have a pet turtle named Tessi and she shares a room with me. If the weather is nice enough, you might see me outside with her walking in the grass.
I absolutely love chocolate. My favorite chocolate bar is currently a KitKat bar, but I also love me some Reese’s cups.
I’ve never left the US, but I hope to do some traveling after college. I’d love to go to Europe or someplace warm with a beach like the Bahamas.
