Carrie King: Staff Writer
Why did you choose Monmouth?
It was honestly so many little things that made me want to come here! I remember seeing an ad for the roller rink and getting so excited because roller skating has been one of my hobbies since I was like 11. It made me remember going to my first roller derby game in Minneapolis and I realized there were aspects of home even this far away.
What are a few things people don’t know about you?
I like to think I’m an open book, but there are some odd things that maybe even some of my friends don’t know yet. I run the Pokémon Discord group for campus, which I wrote about earlier this year, and I have a strong interest in videography, though it’s just a hobby. I also spent a year honing my skills in photography for my senior year of high school and presented my work in front of my peers at the end of the school year, so I like to think I’m good at photography. Honestly, email me if you want to do a photoshoot, I’m more than happy to spend time taking pictures. I also make shirts on Redbubble, which is a more recent endeavor into digital design, and I generally like to create little doodles and pictures that people find compelling.
What’s your major?
This one should be easy but I changed gears already and I’m only a sophomore. I started as a psychology major, but now I want to pursue English and Communications as a double major with a Spanish minor. People often think I’m pursuing journalism, but I like the balance between the beauty in literature and the practicality and eloquence of speech.
What’s your favorite TV show?
I love Sailor Moon; it’s my favorite show of all time. However, The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu is a close second. I also really enjoyed Boys over Flowers. This is a tough question since my taste in TV is so varied.
What’s your favorite band?
The Killers, hands down. Seeing them in concert was the best moment of my life so far, followed by seeing the Jonas Brothers this fall.
What is one thing you want people to know about you?
I love to write, which is why some of my professors have noted that my name is all over issues of The Courier. If I could spend my life writing, I would be so happy. Working as a staff writer is so much fun and I am so grateful to have the chance to write more and try new things as a writer.
