The Monmouth College women's softball team opened their season at the Fontbonne Tournament in Edwardsville, IL. "This weekend, we were able to get out those first game jitters, and now we know, moving forward, what we need to work on,” said Lillian Hucke, senior outfielder.
The team played their first game against Central College and lost 2-6. During their game against the University of the Ozarks, they took a tough 8-9 loss. The tournament continued Sunday, where the team lost 1-2 against Fontbonne University and ended the tournament with a loss of 1-13 against the University of Chicago. “We did not have the results we were looking for this weekend, but we saw where we needed to make adjustments and improve,” said Hucke.
Although the season opener did not go as planned, the team looks forward to a successful season. “We don't start conference play ‘til April 13th, so we have some time and opportunities to continue to improve before conference play,” said Hucke. They play their next games during spring break; their first game is on March 11th, in Leesburg, FL, against Earlham College. “Our Florida trip is not only beneficial for advancing our skills but also for building team chemistry. We always have a lot of fun on our trip,” said Hucke.
