Last Mon. Monmouth softball dropped a 4-1 decision to the fourth ranked Illinois Wesleyan Titans.
The Scots picked up their only run of the game on the contest’s very first at bat. Kaelan Bradley homered a ball to center field for the solo-shot.
Monmouth held onto the slim one-run lead until the bottom of the third. After putting runners on first and second, Cassidy Abbot rallied back with a strike out and fly out to put the Scots in the position to get out of the jam with no runs allowed. However, the Titans had other ideas as Shelby Fulk doubled to center, scoring a pair of Wesleyan runs. Brittany Murphy tacked on one more with a single to right field to bring Fulk home for the 3-1 lead.
Wesleyan’s Mia Massaro grounded out but scored Amanda Rogers from third for the game’s final run.
Cassidy Abbot pitched for eight innings for Monmouth, allowing three earned runs on eight hits.
Up next the Scots play Knox in a doubleheader on Wed. with games scheduled for 3 and 5.
