Last Friday night, in Dahl Chapel, the first annual Variety Show started with English Professor David Wright wordlessly coming on stage to play a few chords on the piano. Then, co-hosts Bella Peetz and Corey Pevitz rose from beneath the stage on an elevator.
The Monmouth College Chorale wanted to do something for the campus community, so Chorale President Kaitlyn McCullough had the idea of doing a variety show. While the chorale collectively planned the event, Peetz and Pevit served as the show’s emcees.
“It was a showstopper.” Peetz says. “It brought everything in college together…It showed off everyone’s talents.”
Later in the evening, Professor David Wright performed a unique rendition of Leonard Cohen’s classic ballad, “Hallelujah”. “Part of the appeal of having a small campus is having a community where everyone encourages each other to perform,” said Wright.
