As the end of the semester rapidly approaches and graduation is just around the corner, the Art Department turns its attention to the hard work of its seniors.
This past week the senior art exhibition opened and students and staff at Monmouth College have the opportunity to view the art that senior Monmouth College art majors Ryan Dawson, Miranda Pasky, and Rebecca Quick have been working on. Titled “Tranquility and Tension”.
“[There is] a sense of peace or calmness as you look through [the artwork]” said Senior Art and Mathematics major Rebecca Quick.
Quick, went on to explain that “a couple of Ryan Dawson’s pieces, as well as [her own] have physical tension throughout them” like her origami piece that is hanging from the ceiling in the gallery in the library.
Quick said these two themes ran throughout each of the three art major’s work and despite the differences in medium and style between each of the three that they were all able to convey these feelings in different ways.
“[My] ink pieces show this as well as a couple of Miranda Pasky’s paintings”. said Quick
When asked about her personal favorite piece of the show, Quick pointed to her display of ceramic 3D printed painted cats which have an interesting twist.
“There are 240 on display, or there was, and the idea is that people will buy a cat that they like best and the movement is meant to be a constantly changing piece as if the whole is never truly there and it is constantly changing, meant to show how change happens on a small scale”
If you want to buy a cat for five dollars, you can find her information on the north wall of the gallery to contact her to purchase a cat through her Venmo account, @Rebecca-Quick-44. The exhibition is open in the upstairs gallery of the Hewes Library until May 5th.
