The Scots women's basketball team is back.
“I’m most excited for our growth. We were very young last season and going through a coaching transition,” said the head coach of the women's basketball team, Michelle DeCoud.
Decoud believes one strength this team has is “getting downhill attacking to score” and “a lot of guards who can set themselves up to score or attract defenders and kick the ball out.”
It's just about preparing hard in practice and preparing for each opponent as they come. “The short-term goal for this team is to take things game by game we adjust in order to make every matchup as much in our favor as possible,” said Decoud.
DeCoud believes having a lot of returners is good because “seeing adversity is invaluable.” The team faced many challenges last season, but they hope to grow from the adversity and take advantage of new opportunities. “Having a heavy upperclassmen team is nice because we’ve been through these situations before, and we have it in our back pocket,” said Decoud.
The Scots have already won their first home game of the season against Westminster College on November 15th. They beat Westminster 63-57, something they were unable to do last season. “We learned a lot and now we’re turning things around,” DeCoud said.
Measuring the team’s success based on numbers, “I would say that being above .500 for the season is a goal of ours (meaning a positive record, more wins than losses),” said DeCoud. “But as long as my team is locked in and ready to work, I would consider that a success.”
Coach Decoud’s message to everyone: “Come out and watch us play, we appreciate the support a lot and it can really help having the stands filled; so, come on out and see us win.”
