The Scots played their first conference game on Friday, September 29th, and defeated Ripon College 3-1. “I went into the game with the attitude of knowing we would win. Seeing everyone step up and make big plays when we needed them helped us get to that win,” said junior Layne Wright.
The Scots won the first two sets with scores of 25-20 each. Monmouth fell short in the third set, resulting in a 21-25 loss. However, the Scots came back strong and won 25-15 in the last set.
Freshman Zoe Nizzia led the Scots in kills, scoring her career-high of 15. “We have players who have stepped into a new position or role on the team, and they have given it their 100% when we need them to,” said Wright, who followed with 13 kills. Sophomore Bailey Hill led the team with three aces, and sophomore CeCe Palladino led the Scots with three blocks. Junior Savannah Robertson led the team with 26 assists, and Hill added 14 more.
“We have some tough teams in our conference, but we are a tough team as well. We have some bumps to work through, but I know we are all willing to step up and give it our best no matter who we are playing, I’m excited to see what we can do in the upcoming conference games,” said Wright. The Scots will play their next conference game against Cornell College on October 13th.
