The Scots achieved 17 wins and 30 personal bests at the Roger Haynes Invitational hosted on Saturday February 11th. “We had a lot of PR’s and great competition in our events,” said Lindsay Eaton. Midwest Conference teams that also attended were Illinois College, Beloit, and Knox along with Sauk Valley CC and William Woods.
Some highlights from women's throwing. Maddie Boley won the shot put, with teammates Gracie Gibbons following in second and Kayla Braun in third. Boley also won the weight throw, with teammate Jillian Toth in second, and Gibbons in third. From field events, Madison Rusk won the long jump, Miranda Hursey placed second in pole vault, and Delaney Rexroat placed fourth in pole vault. From track events, Melissa Bivolarov won the mile, Samantha Costello won the 3000 meters, and Carina Engst won the 400 meters. Engst, Ally Celus, Nicole Hoyer, and Danielle Johnson won the 4 x 400 meters relay. “Our greatest strengths I would say we have a great diverse skill set with great throwers, great jumpers and great runners,” said Eaton.
The men's team also had a successful day; Caleb Toberman won the weight throw, with teammate Shane Anderson coming in second. Toberman also won the shot put, with Blake Orwig in second, and Anderson in third. For field events, Patrick Curry, Jr. won the high jump, Tashawn Ruffin won the triple jump and Riley Bernas won the pole vault. For track events, Curry won the 400 meters, Eli Newton won the 800 meters and William Plumley won the 3000 meters race. Monmouth's Xavier Camper, Luke Jachimiec, Newton and Eli Perry, the sprint medley relay team, won the 1600 meters.
“We all have a shared purpose of wanting to win the Indoor Conference which is in 2 weeks. Also add great jumpers too to the diverse skills,” said Eaton.
The Scots compete at the Hilltop Invitational at Illinois College on February 16th and will be their last meet before the Midwest Conference.
