The Scots softball team continued their season over spring break week with an eight game series. After going 1-3 in Edwardsville before they departed for Florida, the Scots split their games 4-4 on the trip. They battled tough heat on and off the field, Sophomore Catcher Olivia Riddley (Chatham, IL) said, “This trip was a great opportunity for our team to build some chemistry before we get into conference games. The Florida heat was intense like always, but continued off the field as the air conditioner in one of our houses was broken.” Despite this, Riddley said the team used the opportunity to come together and build chemistry. “We all took our mattresses into the basement and had a big sleepover as a team.”
The Scots started their trip off right on March 6th in Auburndale, FL with a win against Otterbein University, followed by a loss to Gordon College on the same day. On the 7th, they began the day with a loss to Geneva College, followed by a win against Simmons University. The team had a free day on March 8th, where most of them spent their time on the beach relaxing with their teammates and families. They started up again on the 9th with a relocation to Winter Haven, FL and two wins against Russell Sage College and University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. They ended their trip on March 10th with two losses to Rowan University and Heidelberg University.
During the trip, senior pitcher, Abby Leber became the 5th pitcher in Monmouth College history to record 200 career strikeouts, and was named the Midwest Conference’s softball pitcher performer of the week.
