Scots Show Their Artistry
Monmouth College Art Department’s Juried Art show had 29 students enter 57 pieces in the show with 19 artists and 39 pieces being displayed in the Hewes Library through the end of February.
The juried art show is and annual event open to all students to enter art in different mediums with the Visual Arts Director from QC arts Dawn Wolhford-Metallo serving as juror.
Art Major Natalie Takahashi, entered three photographs into the show and this is the second time she has been in the show since her freshmen year. “I’ve always been a two-dimensional artist,” said Takahashi. “So I’ve loved painting and drawing and photography so now that is my primary focus because it is what I love to do the most.”
Junior Kendall Burt entered two ceramic works into the show (“Tea Time” below). Burt like Takahashi had also been in the show her freshmen year. She had hand-built ceramics in the fall semester with Professor Janice Wunderlich who encouraged them to enter a piece in the show.
“I just love ceramics it is my favorite form of art, and I have been doing it for five years now,” said Burt. “Ceramics is one of my favorite things ever because it’s like my therapy and I also get to make things for other people and they get to enjoy what I make.”
Senior Rebecca Quick said, “I’ve always liked the student show because it gives any student, not just art majors and minors, a chance to show off their art in a professional manner. Besides that, it’s a fun time to see what pieces the juror picks as their favorites and overall to see the quality of work and creativity that my peers have.”
The juried art show awards will be announced March 1 at 12pm, noon. The exhibit is open to the public Monday through Friday and Sunday evening on the second floor of Hewes Library. More on the updates on the results will come from Professor Stephanie Baugh in the coming weeks.
