The Monmouth College Men’s Soccer team won a tough battle against the Lawrence University Vikings for their last home game of the season on Saturday, October 29th. This now makes it a six-season winning streak against the Vikings. After a high intensity game, the Scots won with a score of 2-1. “Being down 1-0 then coming 2-1 and winning on senior day is all we could have asked for.” said Senior, Nico Esparon.
The game did not start as planned for the Scots with Lawrence scoring in the first 13 minutes of the game, the Scots got back with Esparon scoring just roughly 5 minutes before the first half ended. But the score was not the only intense part of the game, by halftime the teams had been issued a combined three yellow cards.
During the second half Esparon set the school record for assists, he broke the record with a corner kick for Montgomery Schroeder, resulting in their 2-1 lead. After that, two more yellow cards were thrown, one then resulted in Schroeder being sent out of the game after receiving his second yellow. With roughly 16 minutes left in the game both teams lost another player to yellow cards, the Scots being Hiroto Monden. Making it a 9 on 9 situation.
Their season ended with a record of 4 wins, 11 losses, and 2 ties. “As a captain, I am more than proud of what our group did all throughout the year” said Senior Nico Esparon.
