After being on the road for the past two games, the Monmouth College Women’s soccer team dropped a game against Central College 5-0 on Wednesday, September 14th.
“Central is a tough team and I think their speed caught us off guard, but we really pulled together in the second half and fought back,” said Sophomore, Anna Caster. The Scots’ record was 1-3 after this loss.
During the first half Sophomore Goalie Lea Selquist had 9 saves and during the second half Caster kept the ball rolling with 11 saves. The Scots kicked back in the second half with 8 of their 9 overall shots. After a 3-0 score at halftime, there was no scoring until the final 15 minutes when Central scored twice in a four-minute time span which resulted in the final score.
Overall, the Scots had 4 shots on goal, 2 of them by Sophomore Lynn Rech and one by Freshman Lizzie Gould and another one by Freshman Natalya Main.
“Personally, I think our team has a lot of heart. We all care deeply about one another and that definitely shows on the field. Our motto this year is "play for each other" and I think that will carry us far,” said Selquist.
The women next face off against Benedictine University at home on Sunday, September 25 at 3:00 p.m.
