The long-awaited reopening of Scotland Yard and Scots Market finally came this past Monday.
“I’m just super excited. I’ve only been here a year, so I’ve been anticipating this opening since I’ve come on,” said Amber Dawson, Dining Service Director. “I’m just really happy that it’s coming together finally and we’re looking forward to building off of it.”
Scotland Yard has been a work in progress for two years. In October 2022, a fire began in the dry storage room by the cafeteria that affected all parts of the Stockdale Center due to smoke and water damage.
“We know food is a big part of everything that we do and a big part the overall experience, so not having this open the past couple years has really cut into that,” said Dawson. “Not having this space really was a big hit for our staff as well because we were unable to give that full experience.”
Scotland Yard now contains both the quick service food stations and Scots Market. Scots Market will contain snacks, drinks, microwavable food, and kitchen and cleaning supplies.
One of the new ideas for the quick service dining in Scotland Yard is the concept of “the drop,” which allows students to give ideas for what foods they would like to see on the lines.
“That concept is cool and unique in its own way because we are able to change out the food, said Dawson. “Right now, we’re starting with the all time favorite Zoca. Coming back in the spring we’ll have different concepts that the students can choose from, so it’s really about them and what they want to see.”
Students can advocate for these changes and new options by attending Scots Student Senate full body meetings.
“I’m at every single one of those Scots Senates, so it’s really important that students come to those because that’s where they can talk to me firsthand,” said Dawson.
Scots Market will be open Monday through Friday 10 am to 9 pm and Sunday 4 pm to 9 pm. Zoca will be open Monday through Friday 11 am to 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm to 8 pm.
