It’s time to start rolling out the list of scary movies since Halloween is almost here! Not to sound biased, but Carrie is a pretty good horror movie... not just because it’s my name, but because it’s Stephen King and we all know he’s the king of horror. Of course, the 1976 version is way better than the 2013 rendition. We don’t speak of the 2002 remake. Stephen King may be the best central figure for your scary movie fix, because he has so many different types of scary books and movie adaptations. Cujo, Pet Sematary, IT, and The Shining are classics to the genre. The recent remake of IT is a great choice for those who prefer some humor with their horror, and there are plenty of horror-comedy movies out there to watch. Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead, and What We Do in the Shadows are all good choices.
My biggest recommendation for scary movie fans is to look for old movies! Many movie fans forget that scary movies, in their day, were scary. They might seem cheesy or outdated now, but there is a value in seeing what a horror movie with no blood and no CGI looks like on the screen. The 1990 It has an appeal in that the performances by the actors are outstanding. Tim Curry as Pennywise is one of the best characterizations of a horror movie character in history, period. It might be fun to watch the 1990 version followed by the 2017 version to see how the story changed over time.
In addition, if you’re looking for the best horror movies on Netflix, you could watch Scream, Insidious, Coraline, American Psycho, and Truth or Dare. If you’re looking for Halloween themed things to watch, you can try Stranger Things, American Horror Story, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Dexter, The Walking Dead or Fractured, a Netflix original film. There are so many options that you’ll be up all night watching (your back or the movies?).
Have fun and get ready for a fantastic Halloween!
