Records fall in track’s outdoor opener at Washington University

 The Monmouth College men’s and women’s track teams kicked off their outdoor seasons at the prestigious Washington University Invitational. The meet was the best Division III meet in the country that day, featuring several nationally ranked teams on both sides.

On a brutally cold, rainy, and windy day, the Scots put up several notable performances. In the 100-meter dash, Stone Darrow won the event in 10.99, just breaking 11 seconds. Lucas Sondgeroth also was strong, running an 11.28 and placing 5th.

In the men’s 4x100 meter relay, the Scots turned in an impressive time of 42.72, nearly placing second on the day. That team was composed of Darrow and Sondgeroth, as well as Kaleb Leafers and Darius Williams.

In the throws, the trio of John Hintz, Joe Krall, and Drew Thaxton were successful yet again. In the hammer throw, Hintz and Krall went 1-2, with Hintz breaking his own Monmouth school record in the event. In the shot put, Thaxton led the way, as Hintz and Krall finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the javelin, Korbyn Prescott finished 2nd on the day.

The women’s side featured several strong throws as well. Hannah McVey threw a new PR in the hammer throw, as her and teammate Kareema Lawal went 2nd and 5th respectively in the event. In the javelin, Leigha Sebben placed 4th with a heave of 95’2”. In the women’s 4x100 meter relay, the Monmouth women raced to a 3rd place finish, running a time of 51.16. The relay was made up of Jordan and Payton Peckham, Catelyn Hofmann, and Kenzie Baker.

Next for the Scots is the Greenville Invite in Greenville, IL.
