How can we effectively manage time now that we are home? For some of us, it may be an easy task. Maybe you’re naturally organized and great at planning out your assignments. But if you’re like me, this transition to online classes can seem daunting - suddenly many of us don’t have to wake up for a morning class, and if we do, we hypothetically don’t have to get out of bed - we can use zoom in our pajamas. Professors send out notifications via several platforms, depending on the class - I have moodle notifications, emails and messages on Microsoft Teams. For zoom, I meet for one class - the others have different formats that don’t necessarily require me to be available at our standard class time. This can interfere with our normal college schedule. In addition, now we’re home, which can add new layers of responsibility- maybe we have younger siblings, or have household responsibilities we didn’t have on campus. Whatever the reason, now is the time to start thinking about time management. I personally use my Reminders app and a whiteboard to write out a) the platform we use for each class, b) the assignments due and c) when each assignment is due on which platform. If I have to email something, I note the time AND the method of turning in assignments. That way, even if my sleep schedule is off, my classes will still be on track. Some professors have opted for midnight due dates, which makes it easier for us because we can work at the time that makes the most sense for our personal schedules. Plus, we all know some of us will be cramming at 11:30 that night. It’s more important than ever to keep on top of our school responsibilities because we’re in an environment that makes it more difficult. Being proactive is essential now more than ever. Good luck!
