During the first full week of September our small town of Monmouth had so many new and familiar faces to be seen. This is thanks to the Warren County Prime Beef Festival.
It officially began on the Saturday prior to the festival weekend with the crowning of that year's princess at the pageant. Wednesday is the official kick off with the parade. You could tell how involved the community is by the amount of businesses that were closing up shop to either be in the parade or watch. The lineup of the parade this year was full of many different things. Those involved included Monmouth College, surrounding high schools, and many local businesses, organizations, and politicians.
Once the parade came to a close, the festival officially began. Immediately following the parade there was Swyear Amusements which brought many rides and different forms of entertainment to watch. The weekend festivities included amusement rides and entertainment, figure eight racing, a chicken scramble, calf tagging, a car show, touch a truck, and a demolition derby. This year returning customers found there to be more to the festival than in years prior. Included in this year’s festival was a shaved ice vendor called, “Ferris and June” located in Roseville IL. They had many flavors to choose from but have recently added several fall flavors including Pumpkin Pie and Butterscotch to get you into the fall mood.
