Brayden Deem throws for 244-yards with four touchdowns last Saturday in the Scots’ win over Beloit College Buccaneers.
Shortly after kickoff, Scot’s quarterback Brayden Deem threw a wild backwards pass that gave possession to Beloit. Buccaneer’s kicker Rafael Cervantes Jr. nailed a 34-yard kick for a three-point lead.
Monmouth took control of the rest of the game when Deem responded to his error, rushing for a single yard to score six, and kicker Cody Szelc nails the extra point for a 7-3 lead.
With 2:23 minutes left in the first quarter, Geramyah Porter received a punt from Beloit and took it to the house for a 78-yard punt return and his first touchdown with the Scots. Monmouth goes into the second quarter leading 14-3.
Deem got into his groove as he found Jackson Bergren 29-yards down field for a touchdown. The Scots’ quarterback did not slow down, throwing two more touchdown passes to Lucas Kessinger for 27 and 18-yards to add insurance and go into halftime 35-3l.
“Lucas, you know, he's really stepped up these past couple weeks,” Deem said. “Having trust in my guys and knowing that they can make a play on the ball helps.”
At the top of the second half, Nate Wrublik rushed into the endzone with a four-yard run which extended the score 41-3. Nate Thornton joined the bonanza and caught a pass from Deem. Szelc’s extra point put the 48th point on the board.
Scots paused on scoring until the end of the fourth quarter. Jeremiah Williams got a 16-yard pass from Ashton Summers for his first touchdown with the Scots, ending the game with a final of 55-3.
“If we could do that 10 times out of 10, then it's going to make the job much easier for us,” defensive-line Anthony Cikauskas said. “Just coming towards the end of the season, we're just trying to fix the small mistakes right now and once we do come to the tougher games, we're going to make sure that we do the job right.”
The win against the Buccaneers keeps the Scots tied for first place with Lake Forest, sharing the spot in the Midwest Conference. They will play their last regular season home game on Saturday at 1 pm against Ripon College.
