Once a month, The Courier staff will eat a pizza from one of the places in Monmouth and report our ratings back to you. At the end of the year, we’ll present you with a definite ranking of Monmouth pizza joints. With great power, comes great responsibility.
Sports Editor: The pizza was pretty decent. The cheese and sauce were good, but the crust was pretty doughy. The cheese sticks are not bad, although the garlic lingers for a while. The cinnamon balls were the best part, probably the best dessert at a pizza restaurant in Monmouth. Rating: 5.99/10
Features Editor: There was hardly any sauce on the slices of pizza I was eating. The icing for the cinnamon balls was gritty. But the cheese sticks (or whatever Alfano’s calls it) those were really good, especially if you dipped then into marinara. Rating: 4.5/10
Political Editor: Alfano’s is my personal go to pizza place here in Monmouth. This is due to the consistently high standard that they have set in terms of both the quality of their pizza and the speed of their delivery. Alfano’s pizza tastes more sweet than savory, with plenty of cheese, generous and delicious toppings, tasty sauce, and strong-but-soft crust. The only real complaint that I can levy against it is that the sauce is lacking in quantity, and that just a bit more would go a long way towards improving this already tasty slice of ‘za. Rating: 7.5 out of 10.
Photography Manager: Alfano’s pizza has long been a thread in the fabric of Monmouth history. However, history does not mean you’re the best. While I do enjoy a slice or two of Alfano’s pizza I feel that it does not truly adhere to what makes a pizza great. The story of a pizzais told through the crust and sauce, everything else is merely a condiment and I feel that Alfano’s is too reliant on the toppings. Their crust lacks crispness and the sauce is lacking in more than just a presence on the pizza. Rating: 4.5 out of 10.
News Editor: Alfano’s pizza is a top contender when it comes to the best pizza in the Maple City. With that being said, it has a great balance of sauce distribution, rich cheese, and quality toppings. Rating: 7.7/10
Editor in Chief: I’m a big fan of thin crust pizza with a whole lot of sauce so Alfano’s tends to miss the mark for me. However, I’m never opposed to their cheese sticks or cinamon balls! Rating: 4/10
Overall Average Rating: 5.7 out of 10
